What can we do? farmer Henry Crothers asked writer Michael Parfit. If people in the inland cant make a dollar, what do you do with the land when theyre all gone? Its sort of a two-edged sword, I guess.
Make a living or protect the land? Its not always possible to do both. In countries around the world the relationship between industry and environmentalism is a turbulent one. Both sides have validand often passionatearguments that can lead to bitter disputes, or worse.
Is compromise possible? Can environmental concerns and commercial needs find common ground?
